The Victoria at Oxshott is one of our favourite local pubs. Located less than 5 minutes away from Oxshott and Esher commons, it's a wonderful place to visit with your dog. The staff at The Victoria are hugely experienced, having worked with Heston Blumenthal, JKS and Gordon Ramsey. There is a cosy atmosphere, with a fireplace roaring in the winter and a beautiful garden in the back during the summer. Dogs are allowed everywhere in the restaurant: we have been for lunch numerous times with multiple dogs in tow, and the staff have been incredibly accommodating every time. For those visiting with children as well as fur-babies, it's good to know that the pub is also kid-friendly, serving kids' classics like fish and chips and chocolate brownie with ice cream.
The menu is a modern take on British classics using beautiful seasonal ingredients. We have visited The Victoria a few times in both the summer and in the winter, and have tried their various seasonal dishes. But the one starter we always order is the mushroom parfait on brioche: a chunky slice of wonderfully light and sweet brioche, topped with a quenelle of mushroom parfait and mushroom shavings. The restaurant's main courses always feature a great selection of fish, meat and vegetarian options (and it is great to see our favourite butchers, HG Walter, mentioned on the menu — we love cooking with their produce at home and the dogs get some too for special occasions.) Our summer favourites from the main course menu include beef tartare, while a croquette of crispy pigs head with pickled vegetables is a must-try in the winter. Meanwhile for desert, you can't go wrong with the dark chocolate and caramel mousse served with popcorn ice cream, or the apple pie souffle served with cinnamon ice cream.
During our visit, along with the human appetisers, the dogs receive a little plate of dog treats in the shape of some “gravy bones" — which was just a lovely gesture.
For post-meal walk, Oxshott Heath and Woods is a few minutes drive. It is a beautiful area of approximately 200 acres of healthland and woods. From Oxshott Heath, you can then cross the overpass over the A3 directly to Esher Commons. Together with Oxshott Heath, the whole area covers over a total of 890 acres of land, meaning there is plenty of exploring to be done with your pooch. Other stunning walking locations nearby include Claremont Landscape Garden and Painshill Park.
